Bad news for those who still own Nokia smartphones powered by the Windows Phone 7.8 operating system, as the Finnish company has confirmed that it will not provide any other major updates for these devices in the future.

Nokia Care answered a query from blog site Winphoneplace concerning the continuity of support for the Lumia smartphones powered by Windows Phone 7.8 saying that “there’s no WP7.8 updates currently planned.”

In addition, Nokia Care also states that the company will continue to support all Nokia Lumia owners, so those who don’t plan to switch to a newer device soon will be pleased to know that their devices will still receive enough attention to keep them in good shape.

With just a few months left until the Windows Phone 8.1 announcement (probably), perhaps it’s time that Windows Phone fans who still own very old devices embraced the new platform.
