Finnish mobile phone maker Nokia is expected to deliver an update to its Glance Screen alongside the Windows Phone 8 GDR3 update for its Lumia smartphones.

The forthcoming firmware, pushed out by Microsoft as Windows Phone 8 General Distribution Release 3, will arrive on Nokia’s smartphones with some additional enhancements, included in a package called Bittersweet shimmer.

The main improvements included in the software are said to be support for larger and full HD touchscreens, as well as for more powerful processors.

In fact, rumor has it that the updated OS flavor will be released on Nokia’s upcoming Lumia 1520 in the beginning, and that the smartphone will feature a 6-inch full HD screen, while being powered by a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 CPU.

However, the same as it happened with the Windows Phone 8 GDR2 update, the upcoming release will include specific enhancements for Nokia devices, one of which will be aimed at the Glance Screen.

According to a new report on the matter, coming from Twitter user @Nawzil, Nokia will provide users with the option to change the colors of the Glance Screen’s night mode following the upgrade to GDR3.

Apparently, there will be 20 color options available for users to choose from, which should prove a great enhancement over the currently available possibilities. Notifications will also come to the Glance Screen, it seems.

The new OS iteration will also offer custom notification sounds for email, text, voice mail, and reminders, along with the ability to restore over Wi-Fi when resetting a handset, as WPCentral notes.

Various overall performance improvements will also be included in the new platform release, along with an X button to close apps in the multi-tasking screen, a screen location lock, and more.

Windows Phone 8 GDR3 is expected to be officially announced in the coming months, most probably before the end of the year. However, no specific info on when it will start arriving on smartphones has been provided as of now.
