14 DAY TRIAL // Mobile phone batteries have been a real issue of debate lately. Nokia has just released a product advisory for one of its batteries, as some functionality problems have been experienced by their users until now.
It looks like the Nokia-branded BL-5C battery manufactured by Matsushita Battery Industrial has caused some concerns for the company. Such batteries can experience overheating initiated by a short circuit while charging. This can make the battery to dislodge and cause great problems with normal phone handling.
The extent that such reports manage to affect the company is given by the number of such batteries that can be found in Nokia handsets. The Finnish company has been working with several suppliers for BL-5C batteries. They have managed to produce 300 million such products until now, a huge number.
Fortunately for Nokia, the issue refers only to 46 million batteries. These products have been manufactured by Matsushita between December 2005 and November 2006. Reports received on the battery malfunction have come only in relation to products coming from this company. There has been an average number of 100 incidents of overheating reported globally. Nobody has been hurt as a result of trying to recharge the faulty batteries.
Although the number of devices using this type of batteries is quite large, Nokia has emphasized the fact that the products are not to be found in all its devices. For this reason, it does not mean that all Nokia mobile phones have faulty batteries. The BL-5C is one of 14 different battery models used in Nokia products. Moreover, Matsushita is one of several suppliers that this handset producer works with.
Consumers can ask for a replacement of any BL-5C battery, although the percentage of experienced problems has been an extremely reduced one. Nokia has also published an online list of all their products using this type of batteries, at their website.
