Nokia seems to have finally found a solution to deliver its devices to less developed mobile markets, by customizing a bit its more affordable products. Consequently, Nokia has taken a whole “line,” if it may be called that, of mobiles to the Pakistani users.

Director of Strategy, Business Development and Industry Marketing at Nokia, Marko Keskinen, said about this important new expansion: “Nokia is well aware of the needs of emerging markets and we are executing a strategy to provide exceptional quality products and services to our consumers. Wider industry collaboration among vendors, service providers and regulators enables affordable mobile communication. In the past five years we have been creating efficiencies to bring the cost of mobile devices lower but due to taxation and duties we have not been able to bring the total cost of ownership to a level affordable for lower income consumers.”

Country GM Pakistan, Nokia, Imran Khalid Mahmood, also said a few things about the expansion, referring to 2002, when Nokia first talked about this kind of campaign, and stressing how it had now become reality. He also emphasized that this development would popularize the Internet through mobile devices and help the national mobile market develop at a faster rate.

The devices in question include two music phones, the 5130 XpressMusic and the 5030 XpressMusic, plus Nokia 1202 and Nokia 1661. The 5130 comes with a 2 Megapixel camera, dedicated music keys, FM Radio, digital music player and image share support, being the cheapest of the two music phones. The 5030 brings the internal FM antenna, radio fun design, one-touch radio keys, radio programming, and 1.8'' TFT color display. Among other features, it includes picture messaging, long text messages capabilities and long-life battery.

Nokia 1202 and 1661 were created with rural users in mind, including specific features, such as flashlight, phone book for 5 users and long-life batteries. The 1661 is the device with the cheapest color display ever made by Nokia, but it seems that it will be very useful for some Pakistan users.
