Finnish mobile phone maker Nokia has announced today the release of yet another Eseries mobile phone, the full-QWERTY Nokia E72. The new device, introduced at the Nokia Connection event in Singapore, comes with a wide range of email and instant messaging capabilities, offering users the possibility to become productive, both in their personal and professional lives.

The new Nokia E72 comes to the market as the successor of the already popular Nokia E71, and features some of the essential elements of its predecessor, but also a few enhanced capabilities in various areas. The device allows users to set up instant messaging (IM) accounts via Nokia Messaging directly from the homescreen of the phone, after which they will be connected to IM accounts like Yahoo! Messenger, Google Talk and Ovi, and more.

“Despite the outstanding market performance of the Nokia E71, we still continually look for ways to enhance the device,” said Ilari Nurmi, vice president at Nokia. “So we included the desktop like email experience from the Nokia E75 and gave it a new optical navigation key for more intuitive scrolling through menus, emails and fast panning of images. We also upgraded the camera to 5 megapixels and added a standard 3.5 mm audio jack.”

The Instant Messaging capabilities of the new Nokia E72 are complemented by onboard clients for Mail for Exchange and IBM Lotus Notes Traveler. Nokia Messaging, the company's mobile email and IM service, also allows users to access Yahoo! Mail, Gmail, Windows Live Hotmail, Ovi Mail, as well as a wide variety of other email service providers, all through a simple on-device email setup, while integrating the owner's corporate email accounts as well.

Other improvements that the new handset comes with include faster Internet up- and downlink speeds, as well as A-GPS and compass, integration with Maps, lifetime walk navigation and 10 days of turn-by-turn navigation in case the activation is made within the first three months. In addition, the device also comes with noise cancellation features, as well as with a new version of Quickoffice, providing compatibility with Microsoft Office 2007 and offering free version upgrades.

The new full-QWERTY smartphone, the Nokia E72, the phone maker says, is expected to start shipping on the market sometime at the end of the third quarter of the ongoing year. The estimated retail price of the phone, before taxes and subsidies, should be of EUR 350.
