Even though it was tagged as a big disappointment, the Nokia E72 remains one of the latest Eseries device, thus Nokia is still trying to fix some of the smartphone's bugs by releasing a new firmware update. The software update also brings new features and updates of the apps bundled with the device.

As usual, before updating users should backup all their data stored on their Nokia E72 smartphone. The new v052.005 firmware update can be installed over-the-air (OTA) from the phone's menu or by connecting the handset to a PC and using the Nokia Software Updater (NSU).

The changelog for v052.005 firmware update is detailed below:

- Changes in timezones; - Adobe Reader updated to version 2.5.202; - Default system start date changed (11/10/2010); - Clock time font changed (update after a previous firmware, v51, made it appear smaller); - Device Management fix; - Keypad Autolock fix (autolock now restricted to homescreen).

Nokia E72 is powered by an ARM 11 600 MHz processor and runs on Symbian 9.3 platform with Series 60 v3.2 UI.

The handset comes with a 2.36-inch TFT display with 16 million colors and 320x240 pixels resolution. In addition to its Eseries standard QWERTY keyboard, the E72 embeds an accelerometer sensor and optical trackpad.

It boasts a 5-megapixel (2592 x 1944 pixels) camera with autofocus, LED flash, camcorder (VGA@15fps), as well as secondary VGA video-call camera.

Other key features of the smartphone include: HSDPA 10.2 Mbps, HSUPA 2 Mbps, 250 MB internal memory, 128 MB RAM, hot-swappable microSD card slot for memory expansion (up to 16GB), Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g, GPS with A-GPS support (Nokia Maps 3.0) and Stereo FM radio with RDS (Visual radio included).

Nokia E72 owners can verify their firmware version by typing *#0000* or from the phone's updates menu that can be accessed in the Settings area.
