Unveiled back in May, Nokia Asha 501 hit shelves one month later and proved to be one of the most popular handsets of the series. However, the device was still missing critical apps and services, which Nokia promised would bring in the coming months.

Last week, the Finnish company revealed some of the changes that the next major software update would bring to Nokia Asha 501.

Some of the most important apps and services for mobile devices also made their way onto the phone, so those who already own the Asha 501 will be able to take advantage of the latest features.

In an explanative post on Nokia Conversations, the company highlights some of the most important changes added via the latest software update.

“The changes run a lot deeper than that, though, and Fastlane is one of the biggest beneficiaries of the update. It’s now possible to remove individual apps and items from your feed, so you can keep Fastlane simple, uncluttered and filled with the features you truly love the most.”

Users will now be able to remove an item directly from the Fastlane UI by simply tapping and holding that item and selecting delete from the contextual menu.

Lots of apps and useful tools can be automatically added on the Fastlane list, including Alarm, calendar, calls, installed apps, messages, music, new photos, notes, radio, recent apps, recent web page, Bluetooth sharing and social networks.

Nokia Asha 501 now supports Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync and VoIP (voice over internet protocol), as well as WhastApp Messenger.

The camera UI has been improved as well and now lets users swipe the lockscreen upwards to automatically start the photo snapper.

Users can also share photos much easier by holding and tapping, and selecting how they want to share, via messaging or Slam. Many other options make navigation through menus much easier and intuitive, thus breathing new life into Nokia Asha 501.
