Finnish mobile phone maker Nokia has just started to deliver to its Nokia C7 owners a new software update, known as PR 1.1, which would bring the firmware on this device up to version 13.0.16.

The new software update is being pushed to end-users OTA (over the air), and those interested in downloading and installing it on their handsets should know that it weighs in at 6.8MB.

Most Nokia C7 owners would be automatically notified on the availability of the new firmware update for their devices, but they can also perform a manual update, through firing up the 'SW update' application on their mobile phones.

This update tool can be found on the handset in Applications > Tools. When launched, it would check for the availability of a new software version for the device, and would prompt users to install them, if available.

According to a recent article on All About Symbian, the new software update would include a wide range of bug fixes, along with noticeable improvements to the overall performance of the handset.

In addition to smoother scrolling and transitions, the update would also deliver support for landscape in the dialer (call) application.

Although it lacks new features, the PR 1.1 software update was focused greatly on enhancing the performance of the mobile phone. A future new firmware, supposedly called PR 2, should add new features into the mix.

The PR 1.1 software update is expected to become available for download for other mobile phones running under the Symbian^3 platform as well, including Nokia N8 and Nokia C6-01, but specific details on when that might happen lack at the moment.

For those out of the loop, we should note that Nokia C7 was officially announced back in September 2010, along with Nokia C6-01, as the second Symbian^3 smartphone from the company, following the unveiling of Nokia N8 in February last year.
