Announced in October 2010, Nokia’s C5-03 mid-tier smartphone has just been introduced in the UK. The handset will be available starting this week from Nokia UK for £189, unlocked and SIM-free.

According to Nokia, the smartphone will also make its way to all major carriers in the country in the coming weeks.

Nokia C5-03 is powered by an ARM 11 600 MHz processor and runs on the Symbian OS S60 5th Edition, now known as Symbian^1.

The handset has a 3.2-inches TFT resistive touchscreen with 16 million colors support, 360 x 640 pixels resolution, accelerometer sensor for auto-rotate and handwriting recognition.

“The new Nokia C5-03 smartphone is all about offering the benefits of Nokia’s Ovi services in navigation, email, music and more at an affordable price – a combination that all age groups and demographics will love,” said Jo Harlow, head of smartphones, Nokia.

“It’s a great looking touch device that delivers excellent value to teenagers who love music and are keen on social networking, as well as to soccer moms who need to navigate to the next match,” added Harlow.

Other key features of the phone include: HSDPA 10.2 Mbps, HSUPA 2 Mbps, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g connectivity, UPnP technology, Bluetooth 2.0 with A2DP support, 40 MB of internal memory, 128 MB RAM, microSD card slot for memory expansion (up to 16GB, 2GB included), Stereo FM radio and GPS with A-GPS support (Nokia Maps).

The C5-03 also sports a 5-megapixel camera with geo-tagging and video recording capabilities (VGA@15fps).

“The new Nokia C5-03 is a great looking smartphone that offers excellent features and the benefits of Nokia's Ovi services, at an affordable price” said Sami Lehtinen, general manager, Nokia UK.

Even though £189 might seem affordable for a smartphone offering HSDPA, Wi-Fi and a 5-megapixel snapper, this is higher than the 170 Euro suggested retail price announced by Nokia three months ago.
