Nokia has just presented the Series 40 platform 5th Edition for mobile application developers. This is basically meant to improve the services offered until now to the mobile consumers, may it be for business use or just for personal needs.

This 5th Edition for Nokia Series 40 offers the developers the possibility of creating a larger number of applications. Java applications will become available for enterprise users too, among others, as this series introduces Flash Lite 2.1 player from Adobe.

Moreover, the improvements brought by this advanced edition will allow Nokia applications to run on mobile phones coming from other manufacturers with almost no changes. Another convenient aspect about Nokia Series 40 platform 5th Edition is that it supports more evolved Java applications by using Advanced Multimedia Supplements (JSR 234). This also makes the 3D sound of games and multimedia applications reach higher quality.

"This new platform for high-volume Nokia devices will leverage the latest Java-based functionality to provide a richer and more productive mobile experience to consumers and business users around the globe", said Lee Epting, vice president, Forum Nokia, Nokia's global developer support program. "Moreover, he declared that Nokia is very pleased to underscore its commitment to Java technologies with the delivery of these advanced enhancements to Series 40 5th Edition, enabling developers and operators to provide a new generation of advanced applications and services to the mass-market of mobile phone users".

Nokia Series 40 is an operating system that is less evolved than Series 60, 80 and 90. It is currently used on more than 100 million mobile phones that are based on the Nokia OS.
