Inspired by the great success that Microsoft’s “Smoked by Windows Phone” marketing campaign has in the United States at the moment, Finnish mobile phone maker Nokia has decided to bring its own similar campaign to the streets of London.

The campaign is very similar to the one run by Microsoft, only that it involves only Nokia’s Lumia smartphones, which are powered by Windows Phone.

Basically, Nokia wants to show to people out there that its Lumia smartphones are capable of bringing other highly popular smartphones out there to their knees.

Unlike the “Smoked by Windows Phone” promotion run in the US, the UK campaign won’t get you a new device if you lose, but it can put £10 ($16) to your pocket if you win.

In the video embedded below, which offers us a glimpse of how things went at the start, you will see that Lumia devices can easily beat Apple’s iPhone 4, for example.

“We took to the streets of London to test just how fast and powerful the Lumia is against other phones on the market,” Nokia explains in the video’s description.

“In doing so, we set up a series of challenges -- including searching, uploading and posting -- and invited members of the public to take on the Lumia; we even offered them a £10 prize... IF they could beat it!”

The handset vendor also notes that it plans on bringing the challenge to more cities. Soon, you might see the Nokia Lumia Challengers in a city near you.

Nokia launched its first Windows Phone devices last year, the Lumia 800 and 710, both of which are now available in the UK.

This year, the company launched two new handsets in the Lumia series, namely Lumia 900 and Lumia 610, and promised more of them for the coming months. Initial reports show that Nokia’s Windows Phones were off for a good start on the market.
