After Amber and Black, it looks like Nokia has decided to name its next major update for Lumia smartphones “Blue.” Once Windows Phone 8.1 becomes available for the general public, Nokia is expected to release it as update, but with some new features specifically tailored for Lumia devices.

WPCentral reports that the mention of the name has been recently spotted in a short video published by Nokia Russia, which highlights some of the main features of the Lumia Black update.

Right about at the end of the video, the narrator mentions the Nokia Blue name, which suggests that this would be the next major update for Lumia smartphones that will be released by the Finnish company later this year.

With just one week left until the official unveil of the Windows Phone 8.1, which is set for April 2, Nokia fans should also expect a new lineup of smartphones coming from the handset maker.

According to the latest hearsay, Nokia Lumia 630/635 and Lumia 930 will be announced by Microsoft early next month at BUILD 2014 developer conference.

The smartphones are expected to go on sale in Q2 2014, as several carriers and retailers have already confirmed, but we’re still waiting for official word regarding their availability.

Both upcoming Lumia smartphones will be the first to ship with Windows Phone 8.1 operating system out of the box. However, the new OS will be delivered to most of Windows Phone 8 devices over the next couple of months.

The fact that Nokia decided to name its next major update “Blue” shouldn’t come as a surprise given the name tags that the company attached to its previous updates: Amber and Black.

One might say that Windows Phone is really a colorful operating system. Joke aside, Windows Phone 8.1 is also referred to as Blue, which is another indication that Nokia Blue will be the market name for the next major update to be delivered to Windows Phone 8 devices.

For the time being, there aren’t any details regarding the contents of the Nokia Blue update, but we believe it’s a bit too early for this type of information.

Still, we can safely assume that aside from a big chunk of Windows Phone 8.1 features, Nokia Blue will also bring Lumia users a bunch of new capabilities that won’t be available in any other Windows Phone smartphones. Stay tuned for more updates on the matter.
