Nokia announced a few hours ago, on its official website, that it had been named the "Most Trusted Brand in India" by The Economic Times, the famous Indian financial daily publication. This new "title" that Nokia has got comes after a survey undertaken by The Economic Times' Brand Equity, which involved more than 8,000 people of all ages, all social classes and from all around India.

The number one position in the minds of Indian consumers is a great achievement for Nokia which, back in 2005, was only on the No. 77 position. In 2006, the Finish company rose to No. 44, while last year the giant handset manufacturer occupied an honorable No. 4. In 2008, Nokia finally made it to the first position, outrunning Colgate, the popular toothpaste and toothbrush brand of Colgate-Palmolive, which was No. 1 in 2007 and now occupies the second place. If you think about it, it's a bit funny that Nokia is in a war with "a toothpaste", but that's not at all important.

Mr. Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo, President and CEO of Nokia declared about the Indian recognition: "We are humbled by the trust and faith that our consumers have shown in Nokia. Becoming the Number 1 Most Trusted Brand in India is a very prestigious achievement for us. India has been a critical market for a long time now, and its importance continues to grow."

Mr. D Shivakumar, Vice President and Managing Director of Nokia India, completed: "It is a very momentous occasion for us to be adjudged the Number 1 Most Trusted Brand in India. This recognition fills us with pride as well as a great sense of responsibility, for this is a giant leap of trust for us. I would like to take this opportunity to thank and congratulate our consumers, partners and colleagues, both in India and across the globe, for their passion and commitment that has helped us make this meaningful mark in the country."

Being the largest handset manufacturer in the world for many years, Nokia is, nevertheless, one of the most well-known global companies. Knowing this, we should not be surprised that it has become the most trusted Indian brand, especially since the Asian country has one of the fastest-developing mobile markets in the world. And, after all, mobile markets are where Nokia rules.
