Finnish mobile phone maker Nokia has made available for download for its Symbian^3-based handsets a new application, namely Nokia Battery Monitor, aimed at providing with info on the apps that drain most of the battery.

The new mobile application is available for download via the Ovi Store, and can be installed both on S60 5th Edition and Symbian^3 models.

The new software solution was developed jointly by Nokia and VTT Technical Research Centre in Finland, and should run in the background, while gathering information on the other software solutions on the device.

Nokia Battery Monitor shows you the battery charge level with estimates of remaining usage time and charging time. It also provides statistics of your recent energy usage. Information can be viewed in full screen application or homescreen widget,” the app is described in the Ovi Store.

The Nokia Battery Monitor app was also designed so as to offer info on how much battery is left and on how long it would take before the the device would enter a battery saving state.

The app will offer info on battery consumption on the following categories: Talk, Web browsing, Music playback, Home screen, Messaging, GPS and navigation, Gallery, Camera, Other.

The software solution would log the usage of all of these, and would provide specific reports on the matter. The guys over at All About Symbian also note in a recent article that the application itself should not consume too many resources on handsets, especially since it was written by Nokia.

On supported devices, the Nokia Battery Monitor utility comes with a homescreen widget, which was designed to launch the app when tapped (or switch to the app, in case it was already running in the background).

According to All About Symbian, the app would also offer users two different themes to try out, including 'dark theme' and a 'light theme'.

As stated above, the Nokia Battery Monitor is available for download via the Ovi Store. Users would find it on the app portal here.
