It seems that some of the Nokia handsets might be equipped with rather faulty batteries. Some news websites report that the company has discovered the there are some rare cases in which the BP-6M batteries included in cell phones like the Nokia N73, Nokia N77 and Nokia N93 could swell over time.

Some of these batteries are expected to go ballooning in time and reach sizes several times larger than the original one. Because of this, there are cases in which they might prevent the phone case from closing, but users have nothing to worry about, as there is "no risk to health or safety."

The owners of Nokia 3250 XpressMusic, Nokia 6151, Nokia 6233, Nokia 6234, Nokia 6280, Nokia 6288, Nokia 9300, Nokia 9300i, Nokia N73, Nokia N73 Music Edition or Nokia N77 who observe that their battery is swelling can get a replacement for it at the nearest service center. According to the news, the new ones are offered for free.

As many of you know, the BP-6M batteries are used in a wide range of Nokia mobile phones. The issue is reported to have been observed only a few weeks ago, and the company started to investigate the matter right afterwards. In addition to this, Nokia announced that no other effects were seen in the devices, and that the use of the handsets was not affected by the issue.

We should also note that this is said to be a different problem from the one with the Nokia BL-5C batteries. For those who are not familiar with it, the issue was reported to drive the battery to overheat due to a short circuit while charging, eventually causing the battery to explode.

The Lithium-ion batteries are reportedly swelling a bit after years of use. Moreover, it seems that even unused batteries tend to grow in size a little after about three years. Users have nothing to worry about, the reports say, as this would only prevent the battery from fitting into the charger or the mobile phone, yet it is expected to happen only a few years after the purchase date.
