A video phone of the future

What do you think would happen if Nokia teamed up with BMW to create a high-end mobile phone? An exclusive handset would come to life, that's for sure. Sadly, neither the giant mobile company nor the famous automobile manufacturer has such intentions. Still, a concept phone presented as "Nokia BMW" has recently showed up on the Web, allowing us to dream of a future handset to bear this name.

Nokia BMW is not meant to be "just a phone," but a video phone. More exactly, the device is conceived as a candybar that can twist and turn into a veritable digital camera – kinda like the Nokia N93, but at a more evolved level. The BMW handset should feature a "push to open" button that rotates its display at 90 degrees and enables users to shoot videos with ease, via the built-in camera.

The handset should further feature internal GPS, a flat alphanumeric keypad (maybe touch-enabled), the BMW logo and a glossy surface.

Created by a young designer from Ukraine, who calls himself "Evgen Designer", Nokia BMW is, obviously, only an imaginary device, hence it doesn't exist in reality.

Still, collaborations between handset producers and car manufacturers are nothing new: Motorola worked with Ferrari, Asus with Lamborghini, Sony Ericsson with Volkswagen. Even Nokia had ventured into the automotive industry, the last time being when the Finnish company partnered with Renault for a special Edition of Renault Sandero, released in Brazil with a Nokia N95 as an accessory.

Thus, if Nokia and/or BMW see this new video phone concept and like it, the chances for it to be turned into a real handset are pretty high. Maybe the phone will not be exactly as this one, but if the essential is kept and the outcome is similar, Nokia and BMW might be the first two companies to come up with a truly magnificent jointly-developed mobile device.
