Starting today, mobile phone users in India can purchase a new, highly affordable device from Nokia, as the company has just put the Nokia Asha 230 smartphone up for grabs in the country.

The handset was made official last month, during the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain, as an entry-level touch-enabled device aimed to provide users on a budget with features and capabilities similar to those available on smartphones.

Nokia Asha 230 can be seen listed in the official Nokia Store in the country, with a price tag of Rs. 3,449 ($57/€41) attached to it. The phone is in stock now and will ship in four business days to all those who will purchase it.

The handset was launched in four color versions in India, including Black, Red, White, and Yellow, though only three of them are available for purchase at the moment. The Yellow version will arrive on shelves in the country soon, the company says.

The new Nokia Asha 230 arrives on shelves with dual-SIM capabilities packed inside, which should be an appealing option for many users out there. A single-SIM variant of the phone was also announced last month.

The specifications list of the device, however, is in line with what other entry-level phones have to offer and won’t manage to impress those who are looking for a more powerful hardware configuration.

The mobile phone was released with a 2.7-inch touchscreen display capable of delivering a 320 x 240-pixel resolution, and with a 1.3MP camera on the back.

Nokia did not offer specific details on the processor inside this device, but the company did announce that it packs 64MB of RAM, along with 64MB of internal memory, as fonearena notes.

The handset also packs a microSD memory card slot with support for up to 32GB of additional storage space, while being powered by a 1020mAh battery that can deliver up to 12 hours of talk time, or up to 21 days of standby time.

Running under the Nokia Asha software platform 1.1, the new device measures 99.5 x 58.6 x 13.2mm and weighs in at 89.2 grams. It will provide users with support for 2G networks, as well as with Bluetooth connectivity and a USB port.

FM Radio, accelerometer, proximity sensor and dual-standby capabilities for the aforementioned dual-SIM feature round up the phone’s specs. As mentioned above, the Nokia Asha 230 was built for the entry-level segment of the market, and the features list detailed above proves that.
