Nokia Asha 201 made its debut in the UK last week via major carrier Vodafone. Given the fact that no other carrier announced plans to offer the handset, we thought that the Asha 201 would be exclusively available from Vodafone UK
has just reported that Nokia Asha 201
is now available for purchase on PAYG (pay as you go) via leading retailer Phones4U
. Customers can purchase the feature-phone for around £60 (95 USD or 70 EUR) outright.
Even though the phone seems to be £15 (24 USD or 18 EUR) more expensive than Vodafone’s PAYG price, customers will also get to choose from three different carriers, Orange, T-Mobile and O2.
It is also worth mentioning that Phones4U offers the graphite colored Asha 201, in addition to the white-themed version available at Vodafone UK. However, Nokia announced that Asha 201 will be available in no less than seven colors: Graphite, Green, Blue, Aqua, Pearl White, Light Pink, Pink, and Orange.
The phone is the perfect choice for those who use their phones to type messages or emails, but cannot afford to pay for better device. In this regard, the phone features a BlackBerry-esque QWERTY keyboard, which is well spaced, allowing for faster and more accurate typing.
According to Nokia, “if you’re the texting type and are looking for a budget mobile that won’t break the bank, then the Nokia Asha 201 is a colourful customisable phone that stands out in a crowd
Asha 201 comes pre-loaded with messaging apps (WhatsApp, Google Talk) and deep social networking integration (Facebook and Twitter). Nokia’s new browser is included as well, along with Adobe Flash Lite support.
Nokia Asha 201 sports a decent 2.4-inch display with 320 x 240 pixels resolution, as well as a mediocre 2-megapixel rear camera. The phone comes with only 10MB internal memory, 64MB of ROM and 32MB of RAM. Fortunately, users will be able to expand the storage amount via microSD card (up to 32GB).
