New features are on their way to Nokia handsets that run under the Symbian 3.2 and Symbian 5.0 platform versions that preceded the Symbian^3 OS flavor, the mobile phone maker has just announced.

The company is set to deliver software updates for a wide range of devices, and has just unveiled info on what these new firmware updates will include.

Symbian 3.2-powered mobile phones set to taste the new software update include: Nokia E72, Nokia E52, Nokia E5, Nokia C5-00, and Nokia 6700 slide.

The new update will also arrive on Symbian 5.0 handsets like: Nokia C6-00, Nokia C5-03, Nokia 5230, Nokia 5235, Nokia 5250, Nokia X6, Nokia N97 mini, Nokia 5800 XpressMusic, and Nokia 5530 XpressMusic.

Among the enhancements that the new software update is set to bring to these mobile phones, we can count the Nokia browser v7.3, the application that was packed with the new handsets running under Symbian Anna.

“It provides faster browsing, supports International Domain Names (IDNs) and also supports non-ASCII letters such as Arabic or Chinese. Ultimately, you’ll get a better browsing experience,” a recent post on Nokia Conversations reads.

One other improvement that will certainly appeal to users involves the Ovi Maps, though there will be two different updates for this feature, each targeted at one of the two OS flavors on Nokia devices.

“Ovi Maps 3 SR4 will feature on Symbian 3.2 devices, bringing indoor positioning through WiFi, as well as travel and recommendation services such as those through Lonely Planet,” the said blog post reads.

“For users of Symbian 5.0 devices, you’ll get Ovi Maps 3 SR6, adding public transport lines and check-in services to social networking sites.”

Other improvements include the addition of a set of emoticons that can be used in text messages or MMS, offering a fun way of expressing one's feelings.

The said blog post also notes that the update will be released on Nokia C6-00 and Nokia 5230 as of today, and that it will be deployed on the rest of the aforementioned devices in the coming weeks.
