Finnish mobile phone maker Nokia announced on Tuesday at the CTIA Wireless 2010 show in Las Vegas the winners of its PUSH N900 MOD IN THE USA competition, namely BrettSarahTops, a team that transformed the Nokia N900 into a car-like dashboard. The competition was launched in January, aimed at pushing the capabilities of the N900 both in the hardware and software side, so as to prove that the device is one of the most advanced mobile computers available on the market today.

“Seeing what these teams were able to create using the Nokia N900 in just a few weeks’ time is a true testament to the spirit of human innovation,” said Eddie Hold, Vice President, Current Analysis. “It's refreshing to see what people can come up with when they are supplied with tools like an open platform - such as the one that the Nokia N900 operates on. Kudos to Nokia and the participants for cultivating this kind of consumer innovation.”

The handset vendor also announced that there were three finalists of the PUSH N900 MOD IN THE USA competition, and each of them was present at the CTIA event to showcase their ideas. The competition's judges decided that Bike Dashboard was the winner, based on inventiveness, feasibility and conversation generation. BrettSarahTops will receive a USD 10,000 prize as the grand prize winner.

“We're extremely excited to have won this competition! To think that just a few weeks ago we were brainstorming an idea to submit and now we're here in Las Vegas with that idea a reality is truly amazing,” stated Brett Peterson, a member of BrettSarahTops. “It's really cool that Nokia put together a competition that encouraged us to develop something we thought would be an awesome spin on their existing innovations.”

The manufacturer notes that several different features of the Nokia N900 have been used for the creation of the Bike Dashboard. The team utilized the handset's GPS, its camera, and more. The screen of the device was displaying a speedometer, odometer, mapped routes with GPS, and also offered a car horn, which made it a great app for cyclists everywhere.
