Leading mobile phone maker Nokia already announced plans to focus more on the services it delivers to its handset users all around the world, and today it unveiled a little more on what it achieved and on what it has in store for users during the ongoing year. According to the company, the momentum in the area continues, and it will focus even more on the high-end services it provides its users with.

“Our recipe for success has some pretty simple ingredients: delighting consumers. Yes, we are in more places, serving more people, with more great content and services. True, more than a million apps are being downloaded a day from our store; Comes with Music is now available in over 25 markets; and every second of the day, 24 hours a day, seven days a week, another person downloads our new Ovi Maps app. These are great achievements, but our goal is to delight hundreds of millions of consumers around the world - and we are well on our way,” says Niklas Savander, head of Nokia's services business.

The company unveiled new Ovi Maps at the end of January, with free navigation for 74 countries and 46 languages, and says that it already registered more than 3 million Ovi Maps downloads to date. According to Nokia, the solution registers “more than one download per second, 24 hours a day; around 100,000 downloads a day.”

In the music area, Nokia made new advancements with its Comes With Music solution, which is now available in 27 markets, enabling users to enjoy DRM-free songs downloaded from the Ovi Music à la carte menu and which includes more than nine million tracks in the Ovi Music catalogue. In the messaging area, the company reports that one million people a month open an Ovi Mail account, something that shows the increasing popularity its service enjoys.

Another important service from the company is the Ovi Store, which sees more than one million downloads each day, with the number of users accessing it doubling each month. The solution is localized in 18 countries supporting 30 languages, and can serve 90 percent of Store visitors with their local language, not to mention that it features mobile billing from 60 operators in these countries. In addition, the company says that it will focus on a new service, Nokia Money, an initiative that will kick off in India.

Nokia Life Tools, another service from the company, “is providing rural subscribers with livelihood and life improvement services, including agriculture and education services. Subscribers primarily depend on the agriculture trade and live around the poverty threshold - which makes parting with one or two dollars each month for a mobile service a substantial investment. Since its launch in mid-2009, around one million people have already subscribed to the service. Nokia Life Tools is available in India and Indonesia, and will roll out to more markets this year.”
