Today, Nokia officially announced the availability of Mail for Exchange for its Nokia Asha Touch smartphones, so as to provide users with the possibility to enjoy these devices for work purposes too.

Owners of Nokia Asha 308, Asha 309, Asha 310, and Asha 311 devices can now download Mail for Exchange for free through the Nokia Store, so as to have work emails, calendar, and contacts synced directly to the device.

The mobile application is based on Microsoft’s Exchange ActiveSync protocol, which means that it also takes advantage of push email and calendar and contact data synchronization between a compatible office email server and a Nokia Asha phone.

According to a recent post on Nokia Conversations, the arrival of Mail for Exchange on Asha Touch turns these devices into truly mobile work handsets.

“As well as providing email and calendar services for businesses and organizations all over the world, you can also have access to Microsoft’s Office suite of work tools. Or something like it, at least,” the blog post notes.

In fact, Nokia also brings to the spotlight some applications that are already available for download through the Nokia store for those interested in editing Word documents and Excel spread sheets on their Asha Touch smartphones.

“Editori Text is a free download that gives you a fully featured Word experience on your Asha. As well as viewing and editing Word documents, there’s also a range of formatting options, such as italics, bold and colours, it recognises URLs and you can also view embedded pictures and tables,” the post notes.

“Editori Sheet offers a similar functionality for Excel spread sheets. You can edit the text within each cell; view the sheet in small, medium or large and save the documents directly to your Asha’s memory card.” Users interested in having access to office tools on their Asha phones should try Mail for Exchange and these Office-related apps for that.
