Wireless carrier Telstra, the largest mobile phone operator in Australia, announced on Thursday the launch of Nokia 6720 classic, a candybar device unveiled back in February, that would be added to Telstra’s Next G and BlueTick line-up of phones. According to the company, the fresh handset will become available for purchase for its customers starting with September 15.

The new mobile phone comes to Australia with a 2.2-inch TFT-LCD screen that boasts a QVGA resolution and supports up to 16 million colors, while sporting GSM and HSDPA connectivity, Bluetooth capabilities, built-in GPS receiver, a 5-megapixel photo snapper with Carl Zeiss lens and 3.5mm headset jack, as well as a microSD memory card slot that can support memory cards of up to 8GB (an 1GB memory card is included in the package). The phone measures 110 x 45 x 14 mm and weighs 110 grams. Its battery can deliver up to 525 hours of standby time.

“The new Nokia 6720's superior coverage performance has earned it a Telstra BlueTick, making it the perfect mobile for people who work, live or visit regional and rural coverage areas. When you combine this with strong email, camera, music and mobile internet capabilities you get a quality all-rounder mobile phone,” Telstra Product Management Executive Director Ross Fielding stated. “The Nokia 6720 makes sharing the moment easier too. Customers get an advanced camera capable of taking high-quality shots in a range of environments. And with fast data speeds customers can email the photos they've taken to friends and family while out and about.”

On the features side, the Nokia 6720 classic sports Whereis Navigator with access voice prompted, real time, turn-by-turn navigation, email with support for Microsoft ActiveSync, as well as Windows Live Hotmail and Yahoo! Mail, not to mention BigPond TV, 31 channels on Mobile FOXTEL, or the included music player. Telstra subscribers will be able to purchase the device starting with September 15, for free upon the signing of a contract agreement for $40 per month. The handset will become available for Telstra Enterprise & Government customers too, free on an Enterprise Fleet Plan at $40 or higher.
