Since Nokia announced that it would start to offer its voice navigation feature for free, not many older handsets got the free feature and almost none of the phones running on an S40 platform. That is about to change as the manufacturer has just trumpeted a new firmware update for Nokia 6700 classic running on the above mentioned platform set to also add free voice navigation to the device. The latest update brings lots of other enhancements and adds fresh capabilities to the device.

Software update sw13.10 adds other improvements besides the free voice navigation feature: the camera software has been somewhat improved, with one-step autofocus and the automatic rotation of the menu text to portrait or landscape mode as required; Bluetooth audio connections are more robust and reliable; to make the most of the improved navigation options, the menus have also been tweaked to allow faster access to the application; overall stability has been improved as well. Other highlights of the update include turn-by-turn drive navigation and an upgrade to the latest maps data, version 14.

Nokia 6700 classic was made available on the market in May 2009 and is one of the few handsets running the S40 UI that includes high-end features such as: HSDPA and HSUPA technologies, GPS with A-GPS support, accelerometer sensor and 5-megapixel camera with autofocus and LED flash. The device is also available as Nokia 6700 classic Gold Edition with an 18K gold-plated case.

The update can be downloaded from the product support section of your local Nokia site. Unfortunately, there is also some bad news for Orange and Telefonica Spain customers, who cannot get the update. Still, the manufacturer stated that these Nokia 6700 classic users would get their firmware update in about two weeks.
