Nokia announced several Symbian Belle devices back in August, but for unknown reasons the Nokia 603 was unveiled two months later.

The thrill surrounding Nokia’s latest version of Symbian operating system got dispersed due to the company’s recent announcement regarding the delay of the update for Symbian Anna devices.

According to Nokia the first smartphones will receive the Symbian Belle update in February 2012. Furthermore, the Finnish handset maker also changed the name of the platform into Nokia Belle.

The change was made due to the fact that Nokia already transferred all Symbian-related support to a third-party company, Accenture, along with around 3,000 of its employees.

Anyway, Nokia 603 is one of the newest smartphone that is delivered with Nokia Belle on board, so there’s no need for any upgrades.

The smartphone has just made its debut in India via major regional retailers. Currently, the handset can be purchased from Letsbuy for Rs 14,285 (267 USD or 207 EUR), while Flipkart has both black and white versions of the phone available for Rs 14,460 (270 USD or 210 EUR).

Nokia 603 is a mid-tier smartphone that comes with a decent 3.5-inch IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen display that supports 360 x 640 pixels resolution and 16 million colors. In addition, the screen features scratch-resistant glass and is based on Nokia’s ClearBlack technology.

Equipped with a single core 1 GHz processor, which is complemented by 2D/3D graphics hardware accelerator with OpenVG1.1 and OpenGL ES 2.0 support, the Nokia 603 is capable of performing even the most stressful tasks.

The phone is buffed with NFC (Near Field Communications) support, active noise cancellation with dedicated mic, TV-out and deep social networking integration.

It packs 2 GB onboard memory (340MB user available), 512MB of RAM, 1GB of ROM and microSD card slot for memory expansion (up to 32GB). There’s also a 5-megapixel main camera with fixed-focus, face detection and HD (720p) video recording.
