Nokia 5230, the budget smartphone featuring a touchscreen display that Finnish mobile phone maker Nokia delivered to the market not too long ago, has just received a new firmware solution. The update is seen as a major one, as it brings the software on the device from v12 all the way up to v20, while also packing a nice range of enhancements and new features.

According to a recent post on All About Symbian, the new firmware v20.0.005 available for the Nokia 5230 comes with a series of new applications, with updates for others, and other various improvements and fixes. Moreover, the software update offers users the possibility to enjoy kinetic scrolling in the main menu of the handset.

It seems that, even if the device was a pretty stable one, the new firmware brings even more stability to the system. Additionally, users should observe that the time applications need for opening or closing has been improved. All in all, it seems that Nokia 5230 users can now enjoy about the same features as the owners of high-end Nokia phones do, even if their device is a low cost one.

Other improvements were also added to the mix, and users report that it works like a charm. “The Ovi Sync application icon has been added to the desktop, and the music player has been improved. Kinetic scrolling has been added to the main menu UI, and the GPS code has allowed for a faster fix on your location,” a recent post on All About Symbian reads.

The Nokia 5230 comes to the market with User Data Preservation, meaning that one should find all data on the device after performing the update, yet backing up all files on the device before proceeding can prove a great option at all times. One should backup the device, just to make sure that no important files or info is lost during the firmware update. The handset can be updated either via Ovi Suite on a desktop PC, or over-the-air. As it always happens, the new software won't appear to users in all markets right from the start.
