Finnish mobile phone maker Nokia announced today the launch of a new handset on the airwaves of T-Mobile in the United States, namely the Nokia 5230 Nuron, a touchscreen-enabled 3G device that comes with a great deal of applications packed inside, as well as with maps with turn-by-turn directions and more. The new mobile phone comes with support for T-Mobile's 3G network and can deliver fast Web browsing, as well as a compelling entertainment experience on its 3.2-inch touchscreen display, the company notes.

The Nokia Nuron should arrive at T-Mobile within the following few weeks, Nokia states, adding that it will be available in the US exclusively via this wireless operator. At the same time, the company notes that this is the first mobile phone it delivers to the market with pre-loaded Ovi Maps, the free turn-by-turn navigation solution it unveiled recently, as well as with pre-loaded Ovi Store, so that users can easily access a wide range of applications, games and other content. A full HTML browser is also present with the device, as well as support for IM, text, personal or work e-mail, and more.

“The Nokia 5230 Nuron is a great product of our collaboration with T-Mobile USA and provides consumers with more compelling mobile experiences as they navigate, watch video, play games and social network,” said Mark Slater, vice president, Sales, Nokia. “The Nokia Nuron offers U.S. consumers a unique and compelling mobile experience that caters to their everyday needs and enables them to connect to their passions with an affordable 3G touch smartphone.”

The Nokia Nuron arrives in the US as the first Nokia device available via a carrier with pre-loaded Ovi Maps on board, offering users a free solution to find their way around the country or to find specific places they want, including restaurants, concerts, movies and more, courtesy of Lonely Planet guides. Ovi Maps also deliver weather forecasts, the possibility to share location on Facebook, shortcuts and pathways through parks and buildings for pedestrians, as well as full maps for the US, Canada and Mexico, not to mention the possibility to download maps for over 180 countries.

“Many of our customers are looking for smartphones that deliver a great mobile Web experience with access to games and applications, all at an affordable price,” said Travis Warren, director, product marketing, T-Mobile USA. “We are excited to partner with Nokia to offer our customers the Nokia 5230 Nuron, a 3G smartphone for the masses that delivers features like a full touch screen, free turn-by-turn navigation and a premium storefront for applications.”
