Don’t get fooled by Nokia’s April Fools’ Day joke for this year

Shortly after Samsung and HTC revealed their jokes for April Fools’ Day, Nokia announced that it would launch a redesigned 3310 handset that would pack improved features which would turn it into a high-end smartphone.

However, unlike Samsung and HTC, which announced their jokes one day early, Nokia is right on time with its own prank meant to fool its fans.

For those who do not remember, Nokia 3310 was one of the most popular mobile phones launched by the Finnish company. The handset was released 14 years ago, in 2000, and according to Nokia, no less than 125 million units were sold to date.

Well, what do you think would happen if you took one of the most successful Nokia mobile phones and redesigned it to include the latest technology available from the Finnish company?

The result is the new Nokia 3310 that boasts an amazing 41-megapixel rear-facing camera that features PureView imaging capabilities. Apart from the top notch photo snapper, the new Nokia 3310 packs Carl Zeiss lens and Xenon flash.

According to Nokia, the device will run a “modified version of Windows 8 to fit the unique ‘ClearDiamond’ three-inch touch screen.”

It looks like the three “soft-touch” navigation keys will feature a Windows Phone ‘Home’ button that will get users straight back to the Start Screen from wherever they are in the phone’s menus.

Nokia 3310 will come equipped with a dual-core processor clocked at 1.5GHz, 2GB of RAM and 32GB of internal memory, which can be further expanded up to 64GB via microSD memory card.

There will be two variants of Nokia 3310 available on the market, but the smartphone will initially be released with only 3G support. Another LTE-enabled version will go on sale later this year.

Software-wise, Nokia has confirmed that the new 3310 smartphone will come pre-loaded with LiveTiles and App Folders, as well as MS Office, Xbox Games, Outlook and OneDrive that offers 7GB free cloud storage out of the box.

The smartphone will be available on the market in classic metallic dark blue, yellow, blue, red and green. There is no word on price tag yet, but don’t expect it to go too cheap judging by the specs confirmed by Nokia.

“I’m really excited that we’ve found a way to marry our innovative PureView technology with such a beloved device. With its durable design and iconic look, we think even more people will enjoy our signature PureView magic,” said Juha Alakarhu, Nokia head of imaging technologies.
