Indian mobile users now have more choices when it comes to affordable phones, as Nokia just released the 2600 Classic and 1209 devices in India.

First announced in January, the handsets were, from the beginning, targeted for emerging Asian markets. Neither of the two phones offer advanced functionalities, but after all we're talking about very affordable devices made for users who don't need too much from a mobile phone.

Nokia 2600 Classic (not to be mistaken for Nokia 2600, a phone that came out back in 2004) is a candybar that features a 128 x 160 pixel TFT display with 65K colors, dual-band GSM connectivity with GPRS and EDGE, a VGA photo camera with video recording, MP3 ringtones, stereo FM radio, WAP 2.0 browser, email capabilities, Java MIDP 2.0, voice memo, expense manager, T9 predictive text input, calculator, calendar, 10MB of internal memory and no microSD card support.

Weighing only 73 grams and measuring 109.6 x 46.7 x 12 millimeters, Nokia 2600 Classic has several changeable cases in various colors and it packs an 870 mAh battery that should provide up to 6 hours of talk-time and up to 580 hours of stand-by time. The handset can be bought for a retail price of around 4,170 INR ($100).

Coming in a similar candybar form factor, Nokia 1209 has even less features than the 2600 Classic. The handset has a CSTN display with 65K colors and 96 x 98 pixels, a dust-resistant keypad, dual-band GSM connectivity, a phone-book that enables up to five different users to store their personal contacts, handsfree, polyphonic ringtones, flashlight, cost tracker, time tracker, calendar, converter, calculator and T9.

Nokia 1209 measures 102 x 44 x 17.5 millimeters, weighs 80 grams and includes a 700 mAh battery capable of offering up to 7 hours of talk-time and up to 365 hours of stand-by time. The phone is said to be available across India for a retail price of only 2,250 INR ($55).
