New affordable Nokia phone

Nokia 1508 is the latest entry-level handset to come from Nokia and to target mobile users who can only afford phones that do not pack too many advanced features.

The new device was announced by Nokia just a few hours ago, via its official website, but the Finnish company did not unveil the full list of specs the 1508 will come with. However, Nokia does mention that the phone is a CDMA one created to be user friendly and to bring "high-speed data connectivity to the Internet via cable".

The 1508 is a candybar that looks a lot like the 1208 model, another affordable handset released by Nokia last year. The new handset could actually be the CDMA version of 1208, which only works on GSM networks. Among the mentioned features of Nokia 1508, we have FM radio, speakerphone, voice recording, text messaging, a small color display (probably of 128 x 128 pixels) and an internal memory capable of storing up to 500 contacts and up to 400 messages. No photo camera and nothing else to get excited about. But, after all, entry-level mobile phones are not made to excite, they are made to offer users basic functions at an affordable price.

And speaking of price, Nokia did not say yet how much the 1508 will cost. We do know, however, that the new entry-level phone should hit the market starting the third quarter of the year, hence it will probably be available for purchase at the end of this summer.

Since it is only CDMA-compatible, the new Nokia 1508 can be released only by operators that offer these kinds of mobile services. In the US, for example, Nokia 1508 could come out from Verizon or Sprint. In Canada, the handset might be released via Telus or Bell, while in India the phone is likely to hit the market through Reliance or Tata Indicom.
