Finnish mobile phone maker Nokia has removed the monthly subscription for storage space on its Ovi Files service. While users were previously able to choose between a 10GB and a 30GB option for online storage, either for a monthly fee (€6.99 and €12.99, respectively) or an annual one (€49.99 and €99.99, respectively), now they can benefit from the online storage space without having to pay for it, TheNokiaGuide reports.

Moreover, it seems that those who already paid for their subscriptions will receive a refund for the remaining period of the subscription. “On-the-go file access is a basic component of a complete mobile lifestyle offering. Providing Ovi Files for free enables Nokia to connect more people to Ovi and accelerate the creation of even more advanced Files and Ovi features,” is what the company has to say about the move.

Those who might not know too much about the solution should learn that Ovi Files came to life after Nokia purchased Avvenu, an online service. At the same time, we should also mention that users will get a PC-based Ovi Files Agent that is compatible with Microsoft's Windows operating system, and which syncs files on the connected computers with an online server. While the free version of the service required for the home computer to be turned on and connected for the files to be available for accessing, the ‘Anytime Files’ was an option that backed the files on the server in the Ovi Files account, so that users had the opportunity to access them anytime anywhere.

For what it's worth, although not the only solution of the kind, the Ovi Files might see more traction from users now that the company made the service free. Nokia already announced plans to make changes to its online offering, and it seems that things have already started to move in the right direction, so stay tuned to learn what else the company has in store for its users.
