At the beginning of June, Noctua promised its customers that it will provide them with a free upgrade kit for Intel's upcoming LGA 2011 processors and the company just delivered on this promise with the launch of the NM-I2011 retention module.

The new mounting is backwards compatible with all Noctua retail coolers since 2005 and will be supplied to Noctua users free of charge after uploading a proof of purchase on the company's website.

The proof of purchase should include a photo, scan or screenshot of the CPU cooler invoice as well as a similar document that proves the user bought either a socket LGA2011 mainboard or socket LGA2011 processor.

After the images have been uploaded on Noctua's website and users have also completed the ordering form available here, they will qualify for receiving the NM-I2011 mounting kit.

The new NM-I2011 retention module uses the company's proprietary SecuFirm 2 design and Noctua claims that it can provide optimal contact pressure and easy, straightforward installation.

"We always like to think of our coolers as safe long-term investments, and even if you bought one of our first models six years ago, you'll still be able to upgrade it to the latest socket technology free of charge," said Mag. Roland Mossig, Noctua CEO.

This is not the first time that Noctua offers such a free upgrade to its customers. The company has previously done so in late 2008, when Intel launched its first Core i7 processors that used the LGA 1366 socket.

According to Noctua, orders for the NM-I2011 mounting kit will start shipping by the end of October, so these should arrive just in time for the November 14 launch of the Intel LGA 2011 processors based on the Sandy Bridge-E architecture.

Noctua cooler owners that aren't able to provide a proof or purchase or don't want to order the NM-I2011 from the Web, will also be able to purchase this mounting kit from retailers at a “low” service charge.
