The company isn't planning on offering free games to those who got the Wii U at full price

Wii U owners who got the Nintendo console before the upcoming price cut won't be on the receiving end of an Ambassador Program, as apparently the Japanese company doesn't want to offer a similar deal like it did with the 3DS back in 2011.

Nintendo released the Wii U in November of last year for a retail price of 350 USD/EUR for the Deluxe Edition that featured a 32GB hard drive.

Sadly, the home console failed to live up to sales expectations, and the relative lack of impressive games meant that fewer and fewer people were getting the device.

Recently, Nintendo confirmed that the Deluxe version was getting a price cut as of September 20 and that it would cost 299 USD/EUR.

The company pulled a similar move back in 2011, when the struggling 3DS received a price cut to make it more attractive. In order to please those who got the console at full price, the company offered an Ambassador program that brought them many free retro games.

Sadly, Nintendo isn't planning on following the same strategy with the Wii U, as a company spokesperson told Wii U Daily that there were no plans for a Wii U Ambassador program.

"Thank you for taking the time to write with your questions regarding a Wii U Ambassador program. The Ambassador program is only available to any Nintendo 3DS owner who purchased their system before August 12, 2011 and there are no plans for a similar program for Wii U," the company said.

"I know that this isn't what you were hoping for, but we appreciate your support of our products now and in the future. I also want to assure you that your comments will be added to our records and made available for other departments at the company to use as they see fit."

The new Wii U price cut goes into effect on September 20, and a special bundle alongside The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker HD will also be on sale for a limited time.
