They say cassettes have been long time dead, yet they are still living, believe me! And if you don't believe me, check out the new boombox from Sanyo: I mean, yep, we're all "i" and USB and SD and HDD, HD DVD and stuff but having a cassette deck in your new audio gear simply rocks!
No matter how "true" one is or how deep has he/she rooted the present life in the most advanced technology, I strongly believe that a person older than 25 still has some cassettes somewhere in the house, even though they have been forgotten there and nobody remembers exactly what their content is. If you lived the
80's and the 90's (and you weren't exactly a newborn) then you're most likely to have experienced the cassette fever and maybe even had hundreds of cassettes in your collection and bragged about that (as most of us did).
Sanyo thought this way as well when they designed the MAJ-U02 unit: a cool and modern looking boombox with long, straight edges yet with a very contemporary "feel". Now, it is something way more than a boombox: it plays CDs, as expected, it has a cassette deck (really unexpected), it has a radio with clock sleep function, it can receive digital audio data from any device (including PC) via the USB port and even more, it operates with SD memory cards!
Now, tell me this is a usual boombox you see everyday... for it is not! Besides the basic functionalities of all the components inside, the Sanyo's new ghettoblaster offers extended services such as MP3 recording from CD, cassette or CD, directly on the SD card. Ah, of course, when I say CD you must understand standard audio discs, CD-R and CD-RW even loaded with MP3 files.
Blasting 40W PMPO and with a price somewhere around $200, this new cool boombox from Sanyo could really make a bestseller, especially among those who haven't thrown out the old tapes. Ah, the bad thing is that unfortunately, it does not have a vinyl player... (Just kidding! The idea came watching the funny yet impossible to fully understand little movie about the boombox some Dutch guys put
here)
