Apple “forgets” to include a fingerprint sensor with its new tablets

One thing missing from Tuesday’s keynote address was the Touch ID, as many of you have probably noticed. That’s because the iPad Air and the iPad mini with Retina display don't have one.

That’s right. Although Apple already had a Touch ID-enabled device selling at the time of the iPad Air announcement, the new iPad doesn’t offer this feature. You might ask why, and you’d be most entitled to.

KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo had the answer well before Tim Cook and his fellow Apple executives took to the stage yesterday to announce the new range of tablet computers.

In a research note last week, Kuo said Apple was having trouble building enough iPhones to satisfy demand, and one of the reasons behind this issue is the Touch ID sensor. It’s not the easiest thing to build, and people are snatching the 5s model like crazy. So that’s why the iPad doesn’t yet have Touch ID.
