Internet Explorer remains the world’s number one browser, still ahead of its fiercest rivals Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome.

At least, that’s what statistics provided by market researcher Net Applications are indicating for the month of June 2013.

Internet Explorer was installed on 56.15 percent of computers worldwide last month, while Mozilla Firefox claimed the second spot with a market share of 19.15 percent. Google Chrome came third with 17.17 percent.

Microsoft is currently making the final adjustments to Internet Explorer 11, the version that’s supposed to be offered as the default browser in Windows 8.1 RTM.

A testing version has already been released in Windows 8.1 Preview, but the final version won’t arrive sooner than October when the stable build of the next Windows release is scheduled to go live.
