Skyward Sword, the most recent Nintendo Wii video game using Link as the main character, made full use of the motion control offered by the platform and one of the main designers working on the game believes that buttons cannot regain their place as the main control method for the series.

Eiji Aonuma, who is a producer working on The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, spoke to the Official Nintendo Magazine, stating, “I honestly think we cannot go back to button controls now.”

He added, “I think that these controls will be used in future Zelda titles, too.”

The sword moves that Link can perform are linked to the controller and gamers need to learn direction powered swipes in order to defeat enemies.

Nintendo is rumored to be working on a new Zelda game for the upcoming Wii U home console, which will blend motion tracking mechanics with the touch screen included in the new console’s controller.
