Chris Brown appeared in court on Wednesday, January 8 for the hearing on his assault charge. The singer was charged with simple assault in an incident that took place last year in Washington DC.

He was joined in court by his bodyguard, Chris Hollosy, who is also being prosecuted in the same case. Girlfriend Karreuche Tran was present by Brown's side for moral support, Contact Music reports.

Chris is determined to see the case through, after he rejected a plea deal that had been presented to him. The singer and his lawyer Mark Gerangos are convinced that the injured party cannot produce enough evidence that would lead to his conviction.

This is despite the fact that local police enforcement claim to have the video surveillance from the W hotel in Washington where the incident took place, that shows Brown is indeed involved in the brawl. Chris remains adamant he is innocent and has thus made the decision, no doubt advised by his attorney, to refuse the plea.

Gerangos demanded that the video footage be shown to him, but found that the authorities were unwilling to comply with his wish. If the video does exist, and offers convincing evidence that Brown committed the assault, he risks going to prison as that constitutes a violation of his probation.

The case aims to bring light to an altercation that Chris Brown was involved in back in October of last year. At the time, he allegedly attacked a man aided by his bodyguard that he believed “photobombed” a picture he was taking with some female fans.

Chris Brown is already on probation for another assault case for which he had to undergo anger management at a rehab clinic. A conviction in this case means he violated his parole and could lead to jail time if the judge sees it fitting.
