The leading developer working on the upcoming Firefall MMO believes that an MMO does not need to move to console in order to be successful.

Mark Kern, a former World of Warcraft designer, told Eurogamer that, “Why would we? I don’t see how free-to-play can fit into their model and the fact that they’re royalty revenue share is not set up to take advantage of these types of games.”

He added, “There’s no incentive for me to be on console. I’m more interested in getting onto the Mac OS or even iOS in some form. That’s what’s more interesting to me.”

Firefall is now in beta stage and will probably be officially launched during this year, mixing a familiar MMO structure with elements taken from both the first-person shooter and the role-playing genre.

Kern also recently commented that the AAA game release model for home consoles was no longer viable and would soon be replaced by a new way of doing business, which could come from Apple, Facebook or Google.
