A sequel is more likely

There are certainly a lot of fighting games out there, from the likes of Tekken to Virtua Fighter, or Dead or Alive. But one of the most established companies in this genre is Capcom, which owns the Street Fighter franchise.

However, the Japanese company hasn't been focused only on that series, as it has gone up against other characters from other companies, forming rivalries and video games that have a lot of fans. As such, titles like Marvel vs. Capcom or SNK vs. Capcom have seen a lot of players ever since they were launched.

Now, there is a lot of buzz surrounding the Tatsunoko vs. Capcom title, which has already been launched for the Wii in Japan, and is preparing to hit North American and European shores soon enough, that is this holiday season. The title has already gathered a lot of speculation, as fans are rumoring that it will also be launched as a digital download on the Xbox Live Arcade and the PlayStation Network, for the more powerful Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 consoles, respectively.

That isn't so, the Producer of the game, Ryota Niitsuma, who talked with VideoGamer about the title, says. He goes on to add that, because it is optimized for the Wii, the company would have a much easier time making a full-blown sequel than a port of the title.

“Currently, no, but we would like to see the reaction of the western market when we release the game on Wii. The other problem is the game is optimized for the Wii system, especially the graphics features, so if we were to port it to PS3 or Xbox 360 we would have to make the game from scratch, and in that case we might as well just make a sequel of the series on those consoles rather than porting it.”

This isn't a confirmation that a sequel might arrive for the more powerful console, though, as Capcom is a company that keeps its plans under a shroud of secrecy. It looks like we'll just have to wait and see if the new “vs.” game might be arriving on other platforms than the Wii in the future.
