Once upon a time, the story went that Panasonic was prepping a Micro Four Thirds camera. Unlike some rumors that tend to die down after a few months, this one continued to resurface with constancy until present days.

But the rumor mill failed in one aspect and maybe the most important one there is telling us what kind of camera Panasonic will actually unveil.

Now, after months of telling us that Panasonic has a Micro Four Thirds camera in the pipeline, sources familiar with the matter are revealing that a new GH-series mirrorless camera with a Micro Four Thirds sensor won’t arrive on the market in the near future.

It appears that Panasonic doesn't feel like it has reason enough to release a low-end GH series Micro Four Thirds camera, because interested parties can already pick one up.

After the release of the almighty GH4 camera, which came with the ability of shooting 4K video, the price of the GH3 predecessor decreased to about $1,100 / €823.

The device arrives with a 16MP CMOS Micro Four Thirds sensor, plus an optional YAGH pro audio/video interface. The product can shoot both 3,840 x 2,160 and 4,096 x 2,160 4K video format at 30 fps with 100Mbps rate.

Of course, some voices claim there might be room enough for a new low-end GH camera to squeeze itself in below the GH3. But this doesn’t seem like the view Panasonic has chosen, so we won’t be seeing another camera from the series appear into the wild for some time now.

Sadly, even as Photokina 2014 draws closer to us, it appears the company has put the GF and G series of shooters on hold, so we should forget about seeing new products from this category make an entry on the market.

Similar talk has been spreading around about the GX-series, so the sole mirrorless bunch that remains unaffected about the gossip is the GM.

Currently, customers can pick up the GM1 model, which is touted as the world’s smallest and lightest interchangeable camera in the whole wide world. According to the producing company, there has been a lot of interest in this device.

Judging by all we just said, whether or not Panasonic will make the plunge with another mirrorless camera at Photokina 2014 remains a mystery. In all possibility, a successor to the GM1 might see the light of day at the event, but this is just pure speculation at this point.
