Although it held a press conference at the 2013 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas today, South Korean electronics giant LG did not announce a new smartphone there.

However, the company did promise that a series of “top tier premium handsets” would make an official appearance at the 2013 Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain, next month.

The company did not unveil specific info on what it would announce at the event, but previous rumors suggested that a successor for its Optimus G1 handset might be in the works.

The handset was previously rumored to arrive on shelves with a 5.5-inch display capable of delivering a 1080p pixel resolution, as well as with a new Snapdragon S4 Prime processor (MSM8974), with four cores clocked in at 2-2.5GHz.

With no official confirmation on this, we’ll have to wait for the next month’s mobile event to learn details on the phone.
