Final Fantasy XIV is set to receive one final set of updates before the team working on it at publisher Square Enix shifts its efforts fully to the development of the 2.0 version of the game, currently set to be launched at some point later in2012 or early next year.

Speaking directly to the community that continues to support the game, Naoki Yoshida, the producer working on Final Fantasy XIV, has said, “As far as updates to the current version of FFXIV go, this 1.23 series of patches will be the last.

“There are no more large-scale additions or adjustments planned, and all of your feedback will be applied to 2.0 – along with the combined efforts of the entire dev team,” he continued.

Most members of the team working on the game at Square Enix are now involved with the graphics and the optimization process for the version 2.0 re-launch of Final Fantasy XIV, and they expect to be able to show the results of their work during a beta stage that should include a number of the players already involved with the MMO.

Yoshida added, “We released some in-game screenshots at E3, but the graphics are still undergoing adjustments – expect to see higher quality at release. We’re working on dusk/night lighting and post processing as we speak. They won’t be ready for a little while yet, but we’re also working on getting out some screenshots for the PS3.”

The Chief Executive Officer of Square Enix has recently made it clear that his company is not satisfied with the quality of Final Fantasy XIV while praising its predecessor in the MMO space, the XI installment of the series, the biggest money maker when the entire franchise is taken into account.

The 2.0 version of the game will introduce wide-ranging changes affecting everything, from game mechanics to the graphics engine.
