The newly released Mac OS X Leopard is now more secure than anytime before, as the famous security vendor, McAfee, rolled out VirusScan for Mac 8.6, the first technology supposed to protect the latest Apple OS. Even if it is always regarded as the safest alternative for Windows (among with the Linux distributions), Leopard has the chance to block all the spyware/malware/Trojan horses that attempt to install on a system and to harm the data. As far I can see in the Price Chart provided by McAfee, VirusScan can be bought for $36.65, along with a single license.

"McAfee is our chosen provider for enterprise anti-virus software. We use it to cover all of our PCs and servers. However, not all of our nodes are Windows based; many of them are Macs," said Mike Livingston, director of infrastructure and support center of the University of Houston-Clear Lake. "Without McAfee VirusScan for Mac, our entire network would be vulnerable. We appreciate that McAfee has the vision to offer this type of protection."

Although the Mac OS X users are usually avoided by the threats and the infections that target the Windows operating systems, the Apple customers were recently put at risk, as a Trojan attempted to install on the vulnerable system. As a result, several security companies are now struggling to enhance the security of the Apple systems with more or less efficient solutions. For instance, SubRosaSoft recently rolled out FileDefense, a sort of firewall designed to detect all the applications attempting to start on a Mac computer.

"No operating system can be completely immune from attack and our Apple customers deserve up-to-the minute protection," said Sridhar Jayanthi, vice president of product development at McAfee. "With every new operating system, bad guys will try to find new flaws. VirusScan for Mac will help ensure that customers stay protected regardless of which operating system they are using. McAfee is committed to offering our customers total protection."
