Says a Microsoft executive

The Xbox 360 is a very popular console, having enjoyed massive sales these last few months, largely due to the fact that Microsoft made use of a major price cut in order to make it an attractive holiday item. This price reduction reflected a lot in areas where the rival PlayStation 3 was popular, like Japan or Europe.

Stephen McGill, head of the gaming and entertainment division of Microsoft UK, recently spoke with VideoGamer and said that the current price was the most fair towards customers and that it would get people very interested this holiday season. He went on to say that the portfolio of games and the upcoming New Xbox Experience would definitely bring gamers towards Microsoft's console.

"I'm not going to speculate where [the price of the Xbox 360] might go in five or ten years time. But we've obviously just reduced the price and that's because we can pass the costs reductions we have straight on to consumers. That's the right thing to do, obviously from a business point of view it helps it sell even more. I think the value not only comes from the price of the console but the content. With NXE launching and obviously that's free for everyone, and the portfolio. There isn't a better range of games and entertainment, basically fun, on any other platform, and we're incredibly affordable."

He then tackled the issue of another price cut Microsoft might employ in order to gain the edge on Nintendo, which has sold very well with its low priced Wii console. When asked if the idea of another price reduction seemed unlikely he had this to say: "Yeah. I mean absolutely. We're a great price now. I'm not dropping the price for many many years in the future I would suspect."

Microsoft already has an affordable price for the Xbox 360, and with Sony's recent announcement that it would not make any price cuts this holiday season, people are definitely interested in the 360.
