No Man's Sky is one of the most interesting games showed during this year's edition of the E3 gaming trade show, particularly because its trailers look gorgeous and there is no information regarding its gameplay yet, a fact that developer Hello Games hesitates to talk about in detail.

However, from time to time, the developers do throw out an additional morsel of information, such being the case with their reveal that they also intend to add some more traditional multiplayer components to the upcoming game.

"You can cross paths with other players. That's just not a core component of the game. You're not going out and seeking [other players] out or whatever, but it's lovely to play and just see a little touch of, you know, playing with other people. You and your friends — you know, we're doing the worst possible thing, probably — we're gonna fling you out really far apart," Hello Games founder Sean Murray explains to Gamespot.

Player interaction will be difficult from the get-go, given the game's immense scale, its procedurally generated worlds and the distances that players have to travel being the first barrier. A player's goal will be to reach the middle of the universe, starting out from its far reaches, and the journey will have gamers jump in their ships and explore a bunch of planets along their way, occasionally passing other players, with the possibility to team up and share efforts.

The company has already confirmed that those who don't want to be social with others won't have to, but that the game's general atmosphere won't be one of utter loneliness either. Murray has shared that No Man's Sky will also feature a kind of traditional multiplayer component, one that will encourage players to communicate and cooperate.

"There is this thing, which I'm not going to talk about now, that is a plan for multiplayer and for people to have a more traditional multiplayer experience within the game, and that's something that we'll deal with down the line that is exciting but that is not what's core to the game right now," Murray teases.

No Man's Sky is an upcoming science fiction video game that has a large focus on exploration, scheduled to come out for the PlayStation 4 at an unannounced future date. The game was initially supposed to come to PC, and the developers have said they still want to do it, but given the small size of the team, it will most likely arrive sometime after the game's debut on Sony's console.
