Players will get some surprises along the way

No Man's Sky developer Hello Games confirms that the main goal in the new space exploration game, which is to get to the center of the universe, can be completed in around 100 hours by players who know what they're doing.

No Man's Sky is one of the most ambitious games set to debut this year, as independent studio Hello Games wants to deliver a huge universe that, thanks to the procedurally generated mechanic, can provide billions of planets for players to explore.

The main journey can take around 100 hours

While the game is open ended, allowing players to do anything they want while exploring the universe and its planets, there is a main goal, which is to get from the outskirts of space right to the center of it, where you can find a bigger challenge and richer resources, not to mention improved equipment for your space ship.

This journey, however, will be extremely long, as traveling through No Man's Sky, just like in the actual universe, is a long affair, especially if you don't want to use the hyperdrive available in your ship.

While talking with Eurogamer, Hello Games' Sean Murray says that an experienced player can reach the center of the universe in around 100 hours, but it's really hard to make an estimate, at least not until the game is ready for release.

"I've never done it. If you didn't use hyperdrive to go between two stars, it would take a very long time. I don't actually know how long, but it would take a very long time. Travelling across would take quite a while. But a clever, good player who knew exactly what they were doing could get to the center from the outside in... maybe, 100 hours? Or something," he says.

Surprises are in store for players

However, once this is achieved, players will be in for a few surprises that could get them to stop playing or could get them to start exploring even more of the universe in No Man's Sky, according to Murray.

"But that's not the end of the game. We're not going to say what happens when you do [get there] – there is a point when you could put the controller down... But also there would be a reason not to," he adds.

As such, players are in for quite a ride in No Man's Sky once it releases this year across the PC and PS4 platforms.
