The carrier offers the service on a CDMA network, making it incompatible with iPhone 5

Sprint users who were hoping to take advantage of both the features of Apple’s new iPhone 5 and of Sprint’s HD Voice service will be a bit disappointed when learning that the two won’t go together.

Although Apple launched the new device with support for “wideband audio,” Sprint spokesperson Michelle Leff Mermelstein confirmed that the feature wouldn’t be available for the carrier’s users, PhoneScoop reports.

According to Apple, 20 carriers worldwide will provide support for the HD Voice feature when iPhone 5 becomes available for purchase.

However, it appears that the capability is compatible only with WCDMA networks, which are used by most carriers that will launch the device, and that it won’t work on Sprint CDMA 1x Advanced technology on which the carrier’s HD Voice service operates.

Hopefully, this won’t be a deal breaker, and many Sprint users will choose Apple’s new device on their operator’s LTE network.
