Although some might be disappointed when earning this, it does not come too much as a surprise that the touchscreen display on the newly released Nexus S by Samsung is not Gorilla Glass.

The South Korean mobile phone maker has included this technology on some of its previously released devices, such as the highly popular Galaxy S, which packs a Super AMOLED display, but Nexus S was left out of this.

Confirmation on the matter already arrived from the handset vendor itself, via a recent tweet posted via Samsung Service's Twitter account.

“I have confirmed that the Nexus S is not Gorilla Glass. ^Sabrina,” the said tweet from Samsung Service reads (via Engadget).

While there's no room for speculation here, we're still missing some pieces of the puzzle, including info on the reasons that determined Samsung to release the Nexus S on the market without the technology on board.

One possibility would be that the company behind Gorilla Glass, namely Corning, was not able to produce it curved in the manner in which Samsung wanted it for the new device.

Of course, there is also the possibility that they were not able to ramp up production to deliver the necessary amount of displays as needed.

Either way, Samsung seems to have decided that the Contour Display would be good for end-users even if it won't be as rugged as other solutions.

However, those who purchased the new Nexus S device or consider the purchase of a unit should pay more attention to the manner in which they handle the handset.

The touchscreen display on the first Android 2.3 Gingerbread device is more sensitive to scratches, and might be damaged if brought into contact with keys, rocks, or other objects that are hard and pointy.

While Gorilla Glass is perfectly capable of outstanding these without issues, the great looking but more sensitive display on Nexus S isn't.
