Idris Elba had a spectacular turn as a low-life gangster in HBO’s “The Wire” and, if you feel like you’re missing seeing him playing the bad guy, perhaps Sony Pictures might interest you in a new home invasion thriller called “No Good Deed.”

The film is now in post-production, with an October release date set, so the studio has released the first official trailer for it, which, if you don’t mind my saying, looks pretty intense and amazing. You will find it embedded below.

“No Good Deed” also stars Taraji P. Henson and is obviously a play on the saying “no good deed goes unpunished,” because, in this particular case, it really doesn’t go unpunished.

Elba plays a hardened criminal who escapes from custody and is involved in a car accident. He knocks on the door of the first house that comes his way, and Henson’s character, a wife and a mother left home alone with the kid, opens it – and seems genuinely concerned about this fine gentleman who just needs “to use the phone” to call for assistance.

If you try to ignore for a minute the fact that, from the looks of the trailer, the film seems to play by the same clichés you’ve already seen a dozen times in other releases, you will see that it also has great potential.

First of all, Henson is an amazing actress and she’ll probably deliver in the role of the terrified mother who puts personal safety after the safety of her little girl. Secondly, Elba has a way of playing menacing characters by using mostly his impressive physique, and he seems to be given ample opportunity to do that again here.

I don’t know about you, but I’m sold on this one.
